Light of Knowledge Community is a welcoming space for Muslim women and girls to connect, build friendships, and take part in activities — from events and workshops to sport and days out.

Who we are

A place to bond, socialise and have fun!

We’re a community supporting Muslim women and girls of all ages to feel confident, connected and included. Our sessions are designed to be friendly and welcoming — whether you’re coming for the first time or bringing a friend.

Activities may include community events, wellbeing sessions, creative workshops, sports, volunteering opportunities, and occasional days out. We keep things simple: good company, positive vibes, and a space where everyone feels respected.

To advance education for the public benefit by providing lectures, courses, workshops and other educational activities designed to promote personal development, ethical awareness, life skills, wellbeing and social responsibility.

To promote community cohesion and civic engagement for the public benefit by organising programmes, events and activities that strengthen community participation, mutual understanding and positive social contribution.

Founded with Vision and Service

Islamic Scholar Zaheeda Sakhawat MBE

Zaheeda Sakhawat MBE is the Founder and Principal of the Light of Knowledge Institute and the inspiration behind the new Light of Knowledge Community in Coventry. With many years dedicated to education, mentorship and community development, her work focuses on supporting women through learning, personal growth, and developing strong values within their everyday lives. She holds diplomas in Professional Management & Leadership and Advice and Guidance, is a qualified NVQ Assessor, and is also a member of the International Women’s Darul ul Ifta Group.

Her vision for the Light of Knowledge Community is to create welcoming spaces where women and girls can come together, connect with one another, learn, and support each other.

Alongside her educational work, she has spent over twenty years in public service and continues to lead initiatives that bring women together for learning, personal growth and community support.

MBE Recognition

Islamic Scholar Zaheeda was awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) by the Queen in recognition of her services to the community following over 20 years of work as a Civil Servant and her continued contribution to education and community development. This honour reflects her dedication to supporting others and creating positive opportunities for women and families.
